چکیده :

The aim of the current study is to examine the causal relationship between achievement goals and academic performance in English with the mediation of task disengagement and the relationship with peers among the first grade male high school students in Ahvaz in form of a causal model and path analysis. Two hundred and seventy first grade male students were selected using proportion random sampling method among the four education areas in Ahvaz by the researcher. They were asked to complete the subscales of value of task, self-efficacy, task disengagement, and relationship with peers adopted from MSLQ and the subscales of triple achievement goals adopted from PALS. Their scores of the semester exams of the first grade high school were used to assess academic performance. The results of the path analysis showed that the two dimensions of achievement goals have positive, significant relationship with the task disengagement and relationship with peers. In the model, no direct, significant relationship is found between the functionalist goal with the task disengagement and relationship with peers. A negative, significant relationship is found between the task disengagement and academic performance and finally a positive, significant relationship is found between relationship with peers and academic performance.
