چکیده :

Abstract Knowledge of the relationship between rainfall intensity and kinetic energy and its variations in time and space is important for the prediction of erosion hazard. Kinetic energy and erosivity is also strongly controlled by drop size. However, studies on raindrop measurement and practical different techniques have been rarely documented. The currentstudy, therefore, aimed to apply existing techniques for measuring drop size and to evaluate applicability of flour pellet, stain and also innovated method of flour-stain for drop size measurement in several intensities in Mazandaran Province, Iran. The distribution of raindrop size obtained through applying different methods was recorded compared with those obtained through applying high speed imaging technique. The entire analyses were made with the help of SPSS software package. The result of the study showed that the drop diameters ranged from 0.2 to 5.16 mm in different intensities. The results of statistical comparison among methods using Duncan test also showed that the flour pellet method presented similar consequences with photography technique and then, can be used as a practical and inexpensive method to estimate wide range of drop sizes
