The Relationship between Managers’ Communication Skills and Teachers’ Psychological Empowerment in Education

The purpose of the present research is to explore the relationship between managers’ communication skills and teachers’ psychological empowerment. By purpose, the present research is an applied study, and in terms of methods it is a descriptive-survey and correlational-type research. The statistical population is comprised of all 152 elementary school teachers in the city of Pol-e Dokhtar; using Krejcie & Morgan table, 108 individuals are selected as sample group through simple random sampling method. In order to collect the required data, Zarei Matin’s communication skills questionnaire and Spreitzer’s psychological empowerment questionnaire have been used. In order to analyze the data, descriptive statistics such as mean and standard deviation, as well as inferential statistics tests including Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Pearson’s correlation test have been employed. The results of sub-hypotheses examination indicate that there is no significant relationship between managers’ self-disclosure (openness) and teachers’ psychological empowerment; there is no significant relationship between managers’ sympathy and teachers’ psychological empowerment; there is a significant relationship between managers’ supportiveness and teachers’ psychological empowerment; there is a significant relationship between managers’ positiveness and teachers’ psychological empowerment; there is a significant relationship between managers’ self-control and teachers’ psychological empowerment; there is a significant relationship between managers’ people skills and teachers’ psychological empowerment; there is a significant relationship between managers’ idealized influence and inspiration and teachers’ psychological empowerment; and there is a significant relationship between managers’ intellectual stimulation and teachers’ psychological empowerment. Also, the result of main hypothesis examination indicates that there is a general relationship between managers’ communication skills and teachers’ psychological empowerment.
