چکیده :

Enterococci are currently considered as one of the most important causes of mortality in hospitalized patients. Enterococciare the fourth causative agent of nosocomial infections. The aim of this study was to identify Enterococcus faecalis and todetermine its drug resistance in a strain isolated from clinical specimens of the hospital and treatment centers in Marandcity. Two hundred samples of Enterococci were collected from the hospital and treatment centers in Marand city.Enterococcal species have been identified with standard phenotypic methods, and antibiotic susceptibility test wasperformed according to standard Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) Disc diffusion method. The drugresistance was performed using the E. test method on Vancomycin resistant specimens. Our results showed that out of 200isolated samples, 100 samples of E. faecalis were identified. The results of antibiotic susceptibility test showed that E.faecalis had the highest resistance to Penicillin (83%), Tetracycline (43%), and Ciprofloxacin (41%); and the highestsusceptibility to Linezolid (87%), Imipenem (85%), and Teicoplanin (70%). The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) wasfound to be between 32 and 256μgml-1for Vancomycin resistant specimens. Sixty percent of the samples had Multiple DrugResistance (MDR). The emergence of antibiotic resistance and high resistance to Vancomycin in E. faecalis strains arenoteworthy.
