ABSTRACT: The underground economy is a part of the economy of all countries, particularly developing countries and has serious repercussion on the economy performance and can cause deviations from correct detecting the state of economy and administrating wrong policies. So, detecting the size of this sector is a challenge for the policy-makers. Therefore, the present study was to estimate the size of the underground economy in the years 1973-2010. In order to estimate the size of the underground economy, the structural equation modeling and multiple causes- multiple effects method was applied using Amos Graphic software. Our results suggest that the average size ratio of underground economy to gross domestic product (GDP) during the period under study (1973-2010) was 16.16%.
