چکیده :

Thepresentstudyexaminedtheeffectofmultimediaglossesonforeign language listeningcomprehension.To thisend,94male students studyingatRasaEnglish InstituteinTehranwereselectedforthetreatment.Theparticipantsconsistedof three groups, and each group was randomly assigned to one of the following treatment conditions: textual, pictorial, and textual-pictorial glossing.Theywere givenavocabularypre-testbefore the treatment.Thepurposeof this testwas to excludethewordswhichwerealreadyfamiliartotheparticipantsfromtheposttests. Meanwhile,alisteningcomprehensionpost-testwasadministeredattheendofthe treatment period. To investigate the effect of multimedia glosses on listening comprehension,thedataobtainedfromthelisteningcomprehensionpost-testwere analyzedusingone-wayANOVA.Theresultshowedthattextual-pictorialglosses hadasignificanteffectonlisteningcomprehension.Thefindingsofthisstudymay have implications for language learners, teachers, researchers, and materials developers.
