Impact of Non Academic Websites Usage on Female Students Academic Performance (A Case Study)

Recently all or most of the academic institutions have made substantial investment in computing and building internet infrastructure with an objective to improve productivity of students and faculty members. However non academic websites are dominantly using and social networking sites are becoming extremely popular for internet users especially for college students. This investigation is motivated to study the impact of usage of non academic especially Social networks and Entertainment websites on academic performance of female students. This paper present result of study conducted at a technical institute regarding usage pattern of internet and especially non academic websites by female students. This study has been done by mining the log file of proxy server for one year. Our study indicate the hypothesis that female students dominantly using non academic especially social networks websites. Further average CPI of total users is 7.6 where as Social networks users' average of CPI (Cumulative Performance Index) is 8. Several academic administrators advocate blocking of all websites which do not directly relate to academic curriculum activities as a remedial major. Our results do suggest that a blanket blocking of all non academic websites including social networks websites is not likely to produce the desire objectives.
