چکیده :

Introduction: Rhodotorula is an emerging opportunistic pathogen, particularly inimmunocompromised patients. Rhodotorula species are common airborne contaminant fungi and are also considered as normal inhabitants of the skin, lungs, urine and feces in humans. The most common infections due to Rhodotorula species are fungemia associated with catheters, endocarditis, peritonitis, meningitis, keratomycosis, dacryocystitis, and endophthalmitis.Empiric treatment of Rhodotorula infections compounds Amphotericin B or azole, with or without Flucytosine, Terbinafine, and Caspofungin. The aim of the present study was to determine the susceptibility pattern ofRhodotorulaspecies to systemic antifungal includingamphotericin B; fluconazole; terbinafine, Posaconazole and Caspofungin. Materials & method: 21 Rhodotorula species collected from environments. Antifungal susceptibility test was performed by micro-dilution method.Amphotericin B, fluconazole,Posaconazole, Caspofunginand Terbinafine were used as antifungal drugs and the results evaluated by ELISA reader after 48 and 72 hour. Results: Our results shows that 57.15%, 61.9%, 62.5%, 66.67% and 61.91%of Rhodotorulaspecies were susceptible to Amphotericin B, Posaconazole, Terbinafine, Fluconazoleand Caspofungin, at lower than 0.0625 μg/mL,respectively. Discussion: The current study was demonstrated the importance of antifungal drugs especially fluconazole on inhibition of Rhodotorulaspecies.
