چکیده :

Objectives: Tuberculosis (TB) control efforts have taken on increased urgency due to the emergence of multidrug-resistance (MDR) and extensive drug-resistant (XDR) TB. Effective antibacterial therapeutics are desperately needed to combat the drug resistant TB. Antimicrobial peptides are generally found in animals, plants, microorganisms and are of great interest to medicine, pharmacology and the food industry. These peptides are capable of inhibiting pathogenic microorganisms. The present work intends to show antibacterial activity of antimicrobial peptides against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). Material and method: This study is a review and the findings of its obtained of the collected findings by researchers who have explored in this field. Results: Sharma et al concluded that human neutrophil peptide-1 possesses potent bactericidal activity against virulent mycobacteria in vitro as well as mycobacteria replicating within macrophages. Miyakawa et al demonstrated human neutrophil peptide-1, synthetic rabbit neutrophil peptide-1 or porcine protegrin-1 at a concentration of 50 mg/ml showed significant antibacterial effects on Mtb after 24 and 48 h of incubation. The findings Rivas-Santiago showed the natural antimicrobial peptides (human LL-37 and mouse CRAMP) had moderate antimicrobial activities against M. tuberculosis with MIC ranging from 2 μg/mL to 10 μg/mL Jiang et al showed peptide D5, the most active analog against Mtb had a MIC value of 35.2 μg/ml against H37Rv strain and 49 μg/ml against the MDR strain. In Kapoor et al study, cationic peptoid (1-C134mer) was most potent against M. tuberculosis and least cytotoxic. Lam et al have identified D-LAK120-A is the optimal peptide within the family based on the balance between anti-TB activity and the low cytotoxicity towards mammalian cells. In Rodríguez et al research, Pandinin2 [14] and Pandinin2 [17] showed antibiotic activity against E. coli and Mtb. Conclusion: Antimicrobial peptides may represent an important component of the host defense mechanism against M. tuberculosis and offer a potential new approach to therapy.
