Fe3O4@SiO2-Imid-PMAn was used as a catalyst for one-pot, three-component condensation reactions consisting of aromatic aldehydes, malononitrile and barbituric acid in aqueous ethanol under reflux conditions. Moreover, this catalyst could be recovered easily by an external magnetic field and reused several times without significant loss in activity.
