Today, sustainability issues in development have a special place, and technology as a part of the pillars of development is of equal importance. The use of a holistic model for evaluating sustainable technology is great importance. According to the problems of transportation in Tehran, such as environmental pollution and urban traffic, in this study, we have tried to develop a model of sustainable technology assessment for urban transport in Tehran. The present study is conducted by a mixed approach and in the qualitative phase the principles of grounded theory and in the quantitative phase factor analysis were used to develop the model. The results show that factors such as increase in demand for urban travel, suburbanization expansion, are encouraging and binding factors to apply the principles of technology sustainability in urban transport of Tehran. Strategies such as determining capacity of transportation proportional to the demand of urban trips, assessment of environmental impacts, the use of clean and low-carbon energies in transportation equipment are the most important strategies for achieving sustainability in transportation technologies. These strategies are influenced by factors such as urbanization culture of Tehranian residents and their characteristics in terms of climate and infrastructures and factors such as effects of international sanctions, national commitment and support of government of sustainable technologies have an interfering and/or facilitator role in implementing strategies. It is expected that implementation of strategies would lead to the occurrence of favorable outcomes such as improving Iran's position in international rankings, promoting physical and mental health, and a healthy and productive urban environment.
