The prevalence of Eimeria spp. infection in Dairy cows in Sabzevar city, Iran

Introduction and objectives: Coccidiosis is a protozoan disease caused by various species of Eimeria .It cause major economic losses in ruminant. The objective of the present study was to determine the prevalence of Eimeria in sheep in Sabzevar city. Materials and Methods: 150 faecal samples were collected from dairy cows in Sabzevar city and examined for Eimeria infection using flotation technique. Results and conclusion: Prevalence of Eimerial infection was 26.6 percent in the studied cows (40 cases). There was no significant difference in the prevalence between male and female (P>0.05). The highest rate of infection observed in 2 years cows with 52.5% (21 cases). According to the results, the control of Eimerial infection in the young dairy cows is necessary. Knowledge of the prevalence of coccidiosis will help to reduce the economic losses in the cow industry, improve control programs, especially for calves.
